Hormuz Standoff: Oil Jumps 2% as Iran Rules Out Military Solution

  Market Reaction and Iran's Stance on Hormuz Oil markets have remained highly sensitive to the continuing standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, with traders closely watching Iran's position on the future of the strategic waterway. Earlier in the crisis, oil prices climbed sharply as Tehran hardened its position and signaled that a quick return to normal shipping was unlikely. Brent crude rose around 1.7% to $84.95 a barrel during one stage of the market reaction, while concerns over prolonged disruption also affected Gulf financial markets. Since then, the pressure on energy markets has increased further. Brent has recently traded near $93 per barrel as the continuing disruption to Middle Eastern energy flows keeps traders focused on supply risks.
