New Middle East Defense Pacts Reshape Regional Power

The Mecca Agreement and a Changing Regional Security Architecture The Middle East's security landscape is undergoing a gradual transformation as regional powers seek greater responsibility for their own defense, diplomacy and strategic interests. One of the clearest recent examples is the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement signed by Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan on August 7. The agreement states that an armed attack against one member would be considered an attack against all three, creating a framework for closer security coordination. However, it does not establish an automatic military response or specify exactly what action each country would be required to take.
