A fresh legal confrontation emerged on August 19 when the government filed a petition challenging a Supreme Court order directing that jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan be transferred to a private hospital and receive treatment from his personal doctor. The government argued that the ruling could create wider legal complications for the criminal justice system, while Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party supported the court’s decision.  The dispute is significant beyond the immediate question of Khan’s medical treatment because his imprisonment remains one of the country’s most politically sensitive issues.
